Jehoahaz Deposed; Jehoiakim Installed by Egypt

2 Kings 23:31-35

Chapter 23
31 Jehoahaz was twenty-three years old when he became king, and he reigned three months in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Hamutal daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah. 32 He did evil in the eyes of the LORD, like all that his fathers did. 33 Pharaoh bound him at Riblah in the land of Hamath from reigning in Jerusalem, and he imposed a fine on the land: a hundred talents of silver and a talent of gold. 34 Pharaoh Necho made Eliakim son of Josiah king in place of his father Josiah, and he changed his name to Jehoiakim. But he took Jehoahaz, came to Egypt, and died there. 35 Jehoiakim gave the silver and the gold to Pharaoh. However, he assessed the land to give the silver according to Pharaoh's command—every man according to his assessment. He imposed the silver and the gold on the people of the land to give to Pharaoh. He struck.
